Monthly RoundUp

February 2025

February came and went in the blink of an eye and now we’re one more month closer to spring. While January had everyone getting over their holiday hangovers, February saw a few more cool products come into the shop and lots of rumblings and rumours about major new products being launched this year.

We were also able to get out into the community and participate in some of our first events of the year which is always fun for all of us here at the shop. As the months keep getting warmer, we’re getting even more excited to celebrate our 80th year and continue to be a part of this great community and get people excited about riding bikes.

New Product Releases

Fox's Top-Rated Speedframe Helmets

If you haven’t heard, Fox blew expectations out of the water with their new Speedframe helmet lineup. Not only are they more comfortable, but they’re some of the safest helmets that the Virgina Tech Helmet Lab has ever tested. Every helmet in the lineup was rated 5-stars and the all-new Speedframe RS actually took the #1 spot overall while the updated Speedframe Pro came a close second.

We currently have stock of the new Speedframe Pros and some of the brand new budget-friendly base Speedframes and expect the RS to come into stock later in the spring.

Trek's All-New Rail+ Gen 5

The long-awaited update to the Trek Rail+ has finally been released. The Rail+ has been one of our most popular enduro e-bikes since they were first released because it combines super capable suspension with a full-power motor and tons of battery life which translates to endless laps and a smile you can’t wipe off.

The new Rail+ Gen 5 gets even more capable, with an extra 10mm of travel in the rear and a new dedicated MX setup (29er front and 27.5 rear). Trek has also tweaked the suspension leverage so that it pedals better on the ups and is even more plush on the descents – hard not to call that a win-win. Along with that, there’s also an updated integrated battery with more capacity, an updated Bosch CX motor, and an all-new Bosch Smart system that includes things like a smart electronic lock and lost bike tracking.

While we haven’t got our hands on any of the new bikes yet – they are available to order. And if you don’t necessarily need the latest and greatest – the release of the new Rail also means we have some great deals on older gen models which are still pretty great bikes in their own right. Shop our in-stock Rail’s or reach out to find availability and ETA on new Rail+ Gen 5’s.

LinkGlide Now Available for Drop Bars

One of our favourite new technologies to come out in the last few years is Shimano’s super durable Linkglide drivetrains. While XT, Deore, and the new Cues flat-bar groups have been available for a year or two now – Shimano has finally gotten around to creating a drop bar compatible version with the new technology. It’s available in 10 or 11-speed versions for hydraulic disc brakes, 9 or 10-speed versions for cable-pull brakes, plus new 2x cranks and front derailleurs.

While we’ve yet to see these installed on new bikes, they’re already available for purchase if you’re looking to replace or upgrade an old drivetrain. With chains and cassettes designed to last 3x longer than Shimano’s legacy HG drivetrains, we think they’ll be an amazing option not only for e-bikes but for bikepacking, touring, or commuting. Reach out or visit one of our amazing service departments to find out more!

New Bikes and Other Pivot News

It’s been a few years since Pivot released a brand new bike and we were stoked to hear about the all-new Trailcat lineup. Consisting of an SL (super light) or LT (long travel) version that share the same frame – this new trail bike lineup from Pivot is based on the legendary Trail429 but with refined geometries, more versatility, and the choice to choose whatever bike fits your riding style best.

The new bikes have in-frame storage, MX wheel compatibility, better cable routing, and size specific tuning while keeping the playful and capable DW suspension layout that Pivot is known for.  At the same time, Pivot has also introduced a brand new Premiere Lifetime Warranty which also includes replacement suspension bearings for life! This covers all Pivot bikes purchased from January 1, 2024 onwards – but make sure to register your bike to unlock the full benefits. If any of this is starting to get you excited, feel free to reach out to find out more!
