The first aero jersey project was called Split Second When Castelli engineered the first aero jersey for road racing back in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy. Back then, aero was only for TTS. Performance clothing meant moisture management. And you could win the Tour de France with a baggy jersey that was little more than a polyester t-shirt. Even our aerodynamic consultants expected limited gains, so we named the jersey split second, though, like now, we thought even small gains were worth pursuing. In the end the gains were pretty substantial, and we completely revolutionized the look of the pro peloton. We're now on the sixth major revision of our aero jersey. Each generation has become more aero and better fitting. The aero race 6. 0 benefits heavily from CFD analysis of wake flow in the riding position for fabric and seam placement. It also benefits from pro riders' feedback, as we've worked to make the jersey comfortable for their long hours of training and then racing in every possible weather condition. Version 6.0 is our most aero and most comfortable aero race jersey yet. HOW COME NO ONE EVER MADE A BETTER GABBA? In 2010 Castelli introduced the Gabba to the pros and changed the way pros race in the rain. And cold. And ride in training. Every other performance cyclist soon saw the need for a Gabba in his or her wardrobe. We've made some minor updates along the way, but for the fourth-generation Gabba we started with a clean slate to make a significant upgrade. That involved moving it to water resistance, which meant developing a new exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM WINDSTOPPER fabric. We made the front-facing fabric warmer with a light brushing, while the rear-facing fabrics are lighter yet more water repellent than the previous Gabba. We made it better in the rain through seam sealing on the shoulders and a covered zipper. Based on Team Ineos testing we figured it's better to have two pockets that are easier to access with gloved hands, though we provide an internal sleeve to keep your pump or other items from moving around. It's not easy to make a better Gabba. The name velocissima means "very fast" in Italian, and indeed there's a lot of speed in this jersey, even though it wasn't designed as a race jersey. It brings together three different fabrics for fit as well as comfort. The main jersey fabric is a soft 100% polyester micromesh with Castelli's prosecco wicking treatment to keep you dry. Side panels are in a stretch mesh for ventilation and improved fit. The sleeves are lifted directly from Castelli's pro race jersey, but in this case because the four-way-stretch fabric with raw-cut sleeve endings is as comfortable as it is aerodynamic. The velocissima jersey is not lacking in technical details, but it was also designed to look good. The fabrics are piece-dyed for rich color, and then they get a sublimated overprint for the tone-on-tone graphic over the shoulders.
